The community champions project is the latest initiative from Cultural Conversations, a way to raise awareness about family safety, said project co-ordinator Pauline Agache.
“The idea is to find key people in the community to keep having conversation in their own sphere,” she said.
Other champions included sports players, advocates and health professionals.
Eight billboards will go up around Nelson, and the 12 cultural connectors would also feature on fridge magnets and a Matariki calendar.
